When the Resident had finished removing them I asked her if the pathalogy had come back on the lymph nodes. She went out to check and brought me a print out which shows all 29 lymph Nodes cancer free, then report also shows that that they got clear margins on the partial glossectomy. Now just have to wait until friday when I see the Dr. to find out if we have been able to dodge radiation or if they are still going to recommend having it.... I just wanted to share this good news with all of you here that have been so supportive to my wife and I all through all of this.....

Good luck on Friday.

I have seen way too many patients present themselves just like you only to see the cancer come back quickly resulting in additional loss of tongue and the pattern repeated until finally they had the radiation. Why did they do a ND? Was there evidence of cancer in the nodes? Where are you being treated?

However, I do agree with David, but my reason involves the perineural invasion. Please do more research on this aspect of your cancer. I would not flatly refuse radiation either. You do not want to have to deal with a recurrence! Best wishes and please let us know what your team recommends. Lori

I have been very torn on the Radiation or No Radiation. Please dont get me wrong, I have done enough research to know that if they recommend having Radiation I will probably have it done. What is interesting is that the initial pathaology showed evidence of Perinureal Invasion, however the pathology during the glossectomy did not show evidence of perineral invasion. I am not sure what they are going to recommend today, but I do know that I want to do whatever I have to do to have the greatest chance of remaining cancer free and without having to undergo anymore loss of tongue or surgeries. I guess what I am saying is that while not having to go through the ordeal of radiation would be nice, if it is necessary I am ready to fight the fight. Thank you for all of you kind words, and suggestions.
