I want to say thank you for the all the support and uplifting notes from the group here. I have not been online the last few days. Been showing my family around town to get them use to area here in Seattle.

Just in 8 hours I will in surgery at the University of Washington Medical center. I will make and get by, I have a goal to be up and running around soon. The Tulip festival in the area is in 3 weeks and I want to go. I am going to do it and bounce back.

Round 1 5/2007 - 35 Rad treatments and 6 chemo of cisplatin
TPN feeding for 5 months during treatment and after.
Tumor was on the right side of the tongue.

Round 2. Tumor on the lower back right jaw area. Surgery on 3/12/2010 to remove the tumor, rebuild the jaw and some work on the back tongue.

You have the same attitude that gets me thru and smiling. I want to wish you well for your surgery and the days after. Make your Drs smile and they seem to like a person better . I never complained to mine and still don't , which they really like. Try to practice swallowing as soon as you wake up after the surgery. It hurts but is well worth the effort. It kept me from getting a feeding tube and I also talked as best I could. Will have you in my prayers and th9ughts today.


Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

You may be in surgery as I write so hope all is going well and a good recovery.


David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.
