Ive had this type of operation about 6 months ago. Of course everyone is different, so dont worry about being too much like me. For me it was a rough road in alot of ways. Some other ways it wasnt too bad cuz they kept me asleep for about 3 weeks.

Here are a couple links to read which will answer alot of your questions. My son, TravisB reported my progress and the other one is a blog about my experience.

I would rather not be told what their plans are. Let them do it and tell me what they did after I regain conciousness. I tell my Drs to just do what they have to and it seems they like that attitude. Then I want up and to be walking the halls. It hurts some but it works for me.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
