Hi Everyone
It has been a while since my last post. My dad is ok but has had his share of scares since his tx ended. So far, the tx has worked but he has had numerous infections and needed a trach. I guess the swelling in his throat was so bad from radiation and infections that his CO2 level was really high. The other day we went to Dana Farber for a consult with another Oncologist and Ent. What wonderful people work there, all so kind. But, it is so sad to see all the chemo chairs set up. I cannot believe with all the advances in medicine that so many people have this horrible disease. I hope all of you get stay healthy, cancer free, and may this week bring good news to all.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Actually the advances in cancer treatment (as well as heart disease) have been pretty significant. When Social Security was first enacted by FDR they didn't think the average person would live beyond 60. That is why we are heading for such a train wreck with SSI.

The bump in OC has been caused by the HPV wildcard. The environmental factors are probably the same, smoking, chewing tobacco, alcohol, toxic fume exposure, etc.

There are far too many collecting SSI that have nothing wrong with them but a dishonest Dr . In this small town, there are whole families getting SSI that are much healthier than we are. Just watch them in action thru out the year and you get the urge to make them disabled. LOL Most of the Drs that helped them get it are gone from the area now. My thoughts are to take re-evaluate them. Yes I do know a lot of them that can do anything but work for an honest dollar. Even kids get it because mommy and daddy do.

Hi Guys:

Thanks for your kind words with regard to my dad. As for SSI or SSDI, it is very difficult to get on both these days. I am an attorney and SSDI is one of my areas of practice. Unfortunatley, due to the economy, everyone is trying to get on. The wait period from initial application to hearing or notice of award is approaching 2 years. Frankly, this is terrible for a worthy applicant. I suggest that anyone with OC contact their US Senator or Congressman and ask if they can write a letter on their behalf to expedite process.

Don't get me wrong Boston There are many the need it and can't get it. I was on it for 4 yrs after a Dr told my company that I was totally and permanently disabled. 5 shoulder and both elbows had surgeries and had to be put together.
