Well I just got back from my doctor. he says there is nothing to worry about. he called it swelling and told me it was probably viral in nature, since there is no visiable irregularites with the look of the tissue. its all pink and such just swollen and hard.

I still insisted on seeing an ent though, so he is going to get me a referral.

Good for you Nicole. Too many people are misdiagnosed by their GP who rarely see these cancers. Make certain you are going to an ENT that does deal with cancer preferably at one of the CCC centers. But here's hoping for once your GP is correct.

Take care,
Eileen

It's good that you're getting this checked out further. Bear in mind that there are many things that can occur in the mouth that are perfectly normal. I have had many people come to me after noticing a "swelling" on their palate that has actually been there for most of their lives and they never noticed it before.

The "swelling" was actually a torus, which is a benign bony growth that some people get. It is slow growing, so rarely noticed as it grows. It is hard, because it is bone and is covered by thin, pink skin and can be quite large. It usually occurs in the middle of the palate. Now I'm not saying that this is what you have, but just pointing out that it doesn't have to be cancer.

You might want to Google "torus palatinus" and see if anything looks like yours.

Nichole,

I don't want to be a sad sack and ruin your day but my oral surgeon thought i had a viral infection. I insited on seeing an ENT anyway, he proved otherwise with the biopsy.

Your doing the right thing by making sure.

I just got back from the ent and have now decided to get a third opinon. the ent looked in my mouth felt around said it was nothing just a change texture of the tissue both sides are symetrical.

I hope i don't have cancer but this doctor did very little to reassure me.he didn't offer a biopsy or anything. so I am going to wait till payday next week and book an appointment with a Maxiofacial surgeon for a lookover. it seems no one is taking this as seriously as they should since i am a 30 year old female in good health who doesn't drink or smoke at all
