Nerve damage from Chemo and radiation is called neuropathy. THe main drugs that cause this are cisplatinum ( platinol ), carboplatin ( paraplatin ), Vincristine (oncovin),Paclitaxel (taxol).Thses can cause the coatings on the nerves to be destroyed. The higher the doses os chemo and the more frequent doses of chemo drugs the greater the chance. Ethyol has been shown to protect nerves. Calcium and magnesium given intravenously as part of hydration during treatment helps to prevent Neuropathy. This I just learned from the Caring.com site.
