Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 33 | My clinic in VA is closing for Thanksgiving and the day after. This means I'm getting four days off without radiation. Anyone hear if this is okay for radiation treatment?

I am sure that have been many that have had similar interruptions either due to holidays, illness or mechanical breakdowns. This is a topic that you should discuss with your RO. I would ask (if it were me) what the pro/con of say getting a 2 a day on the Wed before the 4 day break.

Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 33 | That may be a good idea David. I've just been surfing and what I'm seeing is that, since SCC is such an aggressively growing cancer, that it is not good.
One article mentioned that every day missed adds about a 1.4% chance that loco-regional control is not contained.
If so, then this leads me to ask why not don 35 consecutive treatments including weekends and holidays?

I had five days off -- a weekend followed by a three-day respite because my mucositis was truly unbearably bad. I was concerned that it was a bad idea and so asked about it; the RO said it was fine.

I too had about 9 days off because of my mucositis. I was 4 weeks into treatments. RO told me it was quite common.
