My cancer Pal, Mary Pat just found out that her tongue base cancer widely metastatics to lymph nodes, lungs and Bone. Mary has gave it a good fight, since 2001. Her goal is to enjoy each day, with hopes of making her daughters wedding Sept 29. Mary and I became very close May 18 2005 when I came down with the same type of cancer, we both had the same doctors and Rochester Mayo, she has taught be alot, on how to face fear head on with a smile, never giving up. She just got back from a trip from spain was hoping tp go back in Aug. As bad as cancer can be
I feel very honored to have experenced all that we have together.


Tongue Cancer, stage 4, spread to neck/ Radical neck, 3 chemos, 33 radiation. 5-18-2005

It sounds like Mary Pat is a remarkable person and that she has the right attitude on dealing with her recurrence. I hope she makes it to the wedding. It's clear that she has had a positive impact. Regards JoAnne


JoAnne - Caregiver to husband, cancer rt. tonsil, mets to soft palate, BOT, 7 lymph nodes - T3N2BM0, stage 4. Robotic assisted surgery, radical neck dissection 2/06; 30 IMTX treatments and 4 cycles of cisplatin completed June 06.

I am sorry to read your post and I hope that Mary has made sure that there is nothing that can be done to effectively treat the reoccurances. I will pray that a miracle cure is found quickly.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.
