I had a fibula free flap and would like to begin using makeup to make the new skin blend in more to my face. Is there a good makeup brand to use?

Also, in a few months, I will be cleared for cosmetic surgery. My doctor is thinking it may take several but will probably begin with liposuction. Any advice or things to think about with this.

Your question is a good one. I recently had a similar operation. My jaw was removed and a new one made of metal put in. As I heal I will need to use makeup to make the scars less noticable.

What type of cosmetic surgery are you having? When was your free flap operation?

I had the fibula free flap operation in April 2009.

I am not sure exactly what kind of cosmetic surgery I will be having. I will not do that until May 2010. The doctor first suggested liposuction and fat injection to round out my face and to get my jaw line back to shape.

I'm currently in the process of meeting with a cosmetic/plastic surgeon to talk about what I might be able to do to get some shape in my chin/jaw area.

Now that the jaw reconstruction and the flap under my chin area due to the tongue flap reconstruction seems to be healing okay I am looking to see what they might be able to do to improve the appearance.

I think you might be talking about "fillers".

I will be happy to update but it won't be until April. I am really just wanting makeup suggestions for the time being to smooth out the appearance and help blend in my skin.

there is a new concealer at sephora thst is supposed to be good for covering up tatoos. Maybe it would help with scars too. I"m thinking about trying it..

Prescriptives is a good brand too and they will match your skintone if you go to the counter.

Just a thought but, I would go to a professional make-up consultant, we have them in some of our major department stores - free of charge. (try before you buy)

They have every type and brand of foundation make-up and would be able to give you the best advice suitable to blend the new skin evenly into the surrounding area.
