#10510 05-06-2007 02:47 AM | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 100 Gold Member (100+ posts) | OP Gold Member (100+ posts) Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 100 | Today in my local newspaper there was a write up called "The cure~ Pittsburgh researchers are at the forefront of the battle to end cancer".In the article it says..."Theresa Whiteside and Albert Deleo, professors of pathology and immunology at Pitt's School of Medicine, recently began a clinical trial to test a vaccine for head and neck cancers. It strengthens the body's natural defenses against cancer and prevents recurrence." Sounds good but has anyone else heard anything about this? Hopefully something will come out of it.Just found it interesting and thought I'd share it with you all! P.S. Rod is still doing really well and it will be 3 years in July since he finished tx!!!

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

As far as the head and neck vaccine, the article didn't shed any light. It may be the same type of vaccine Johns Hopkins is currently in trials with re HPV+ SCC. Thanks for the post, I think?

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Karen stage 4B (T3N3M0)tonsil cancer diagnosed in 9/2001.Concurrent chemo-radiation treatment ( XRT x 48 /Cisplatin x 4) ended in 12/01. Have been in remission ever since.
