Hi all,

I first posted this in the Activism Forum, then thought perhaps it should be here instead. It seems that other donation threads have been in the General Forum, so my apologies for the double post, but here it is again:

I read in Sunday's Parade that they are doing their Giving Challenge again with the Case Foundation. Is OCF participating this year? When I searched for OCF, it looked like there was something, but all the amounts were for $24. Since $10 is the minimum for the Giving Challenge, I wasn't sure if that was the right link, or if it was for another donation challenge.

I couldn't find any mention of it on the OCF forums, but when I went to the OCF store, I saw a link for donating, which had a goal of raising $2500. I don't think this is for the Parade Challenge, so I'm wondering, does it matter how I donate?

I could just donate on OCF as I usually do, but would like to help if we are involved in any "Challenges" or other special fund-raising efforts.

And, if we are currently involved in more than one, which would be the most beneficial?

Thanks!

Hi Rosie,

I don't know the answer, but it's nice to see you posting.

I hope you are doing well.

Hi Jerry,

I'm doing okay. How about you? Hope you're enjoying your retirement.

Jim,

I was going to email Brian and ask, but I know he's always busy, so figured I'd try the Forums first.

If anyone has an answer for me, you can email me at grem at pa.net. If I don't get an answer, I'll probably just donate through the $2500 link if I can find it again. I thought I saw it in the OCF store, but when I went back it wasn't there. Gosh, it would be nice to have a good memory again! crazy

Thanks.

OCF isn't part of the parade challenge. The 24 dollar one that you see on facebook etc. is Megan's birthday wish (she will be 24 Wednesday) for people to give to OCF and not stuff to her. More than that it is the same battle from month to month to keep everything above water, and donations via the OCF web store via PayPal or other means are always greatly appreciated.

Sorry it took so long to respond to you. I only get to the boards a few late nights each week these days to try and pick up any technical questions that others have been stumped on.

The battles are many, and the time is little. After posting tonight I have to finish a press release for tomorrow that (armed with information from Gillison and Sturgis) will beat back a bad recent publication out of Harvard that shows that vaccinating boys against HPV isn't a cost effective thing for anyone to do. Unfortunately the researchers are a couple of number crunching policy wonks, and it just goes to show, you can publish something out of a good institution like Harvard, and still get the argument and facts wrong. Since the battle for vaccination is now in the public dialog as much as it is at the FDA, we have to take a stand in the pubic arena, to get the right information out there. Besides, we have so many strong, long term posters here now, I feel very comfortable that people coming to the boards are getting good information without my minor input.

Thank you Brian,

I know you are extremely busy, which is why I posted the question here instead of emailing you. I didn't want to bother you and was hoping someone else had the answer.

I saw your post on the Harvard article. Those people are amazingly short-sighted. Just one example of what is wrong with our health-care system. They look at $$$, not lives.

I don't know Megan, but she seems to do a very good job here, so I think I'll donate to her birthday wish, then donate the remainder here.

Thanks!

Okay, nix that idea. Guess I have to be a face-book member to donate to Megan's birthday wish. Or I'm misreading the page. Anyway, I believe I'll just donate here as usual. Too lazy to figure it out. Sorry Megan!

Update.

I got home from work and looked again and you don't have to be a Face-Book member to donate to Megan's birthday wish. So I just donated. Happy Birthday Megan! grin

Anyone else think Megan is doing a good job? Did you all check out her video on YouTube? Pretty good stuff. Take a look - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJY2ynlXoKA
If you do, consider donating. I know 24 is the "magic number", but I'm sure she would appreciate any amount. I know Brian would appreciate any amount. Try this link - http://apps.facebook.com/causes/334112

Okay, I did my duty. Now it's up to you guys. Who will jump on the bandwagon and donate $5 to OCF through Megan's birthday wish?

Besides that link to Megan's you tube video, OCF has its own youtube channel located here http://www.youtube.com/user/OralCancerFoundation
