I have been cancer free now for 1yr & 2mo. Yay ! I can't eat so many of my old fav. foods, or know what is like not to have a "desert" mouth...but who cares, I'm here to talk about it ! By getting cancer, I finally lost the 45 Lbs. of "Baby-Fat" that I carried around for 21 years. ! Now that I am not mad @ God anymore, I feel very blessed, grateful and humble. For me the worst part of my experience, was having to tell my 79 year old parent's. The out pouring of love will stay w/me forever. My Bot was treated with 38 RT, 4 rounds of Chemo, then 2 mo. after RT ended, I had 5 rounds of gastroscamy's for throat strictures. I had a PEG for6 months. I have still have my "port" in. It's kinda like my security blanket ! Chemo Doc. says, leave it in until I reach my 2nd yr. (6-20-10) anniversary. Guess What ? I went to a Clam Bake today, and found that I was able to eat (small) steamed clams !!! I discovered this after I stared at it for 10 minutes !!! I still think its only the melted butter I was after anyway ! Thanks for this forum ! Dianne
BOT T3N2M0 No surgery, 38radiation treatments,4 chemo rounds, peg removed 11/08, still have a port. Treatments ended 6/20/08. So far, so Good ! "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish He didn't trust me so much !"

I certainly understand the eating issues. I'm still playing around with food. Although I don't suffer from total dry mouth, the change in saliva has certainly made it more difficult to eat solid food. I'm glad you could enjoy a treat (clams).

I know you have lots to contribute to help those going through treatment. I chuckled at your statement re the melted butter - I do believe that any food (even Fear Factor foods) covered in melted butter would be wonderful!
