Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,844 | Well finally a follow up PET scan. My last PET showed some elevated activity that scared the bejezus out of me and truly had me upset. It wasn't until my ENT told me he thought it was just still inflammation and the like and not to worry that I stopped fretting.
I wanted to get this scan in before my next surgery, I opted to do a XII-VII cross facial nerve graft to see if they could get some function to the paralyzed side of my face and after some testing the surgeon believes he can help. We will have to do some more tests to see whether a cross facial or a jump graft will be more beneficial...if anyone has any experience here, I would appreciate some insight
So I'm hoping for a clear scan and then smooth sailing through surgery.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

As to your PetScan being good and the graft working and smooth sailing : So say we all I can't deliver it with the conviction of BSG's Admiral Adamo but here is a link to a video clip of him that I like to pretend is encouragement for all of us beating this cancer So say we all As you can tell from my signature line, I loved that show and combined it with my favorite George Carlin routine to come up with "old frack". Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

David R. 65 yr old male non-smoker, light drinker, stage 3 or 4, depending on which doc you ask, scc rt. tonsil, 2 nodes, 7 weeks radiation and chemo. No surgery. Teatment ended 3/20/08. PET scan 8/08 showed no cancer.
And now, as of oct, 2010, caregiver to wife, Linda, with breast cancer.
May, 2013, Linda diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Enuf already.

I can't tell you guys what it means to me to have you all, and this forum for support. I've truly been inspired, encouraged and have felt befriended here. Without the hope that some of your stories have given me I would have not opted for the testing or the nerve graft...but I've been shown true examples of grit and heart and the will to overcome here that inspires me to beat this crap.
