Hi there,

I just finished my radiation today and I have deep burns all over my neck. There are 2 areas in particular that are open. One area is like a deep cut and the other is like a large round open wound. I have biofene and aquaphor but didn't know how best to treat the open wounds? I can also smell an odor coming from the large cut one. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if it's best to cover with gauze or let the air heal it?

Belinda, I agree with cookey, you should see your radiation specialists about this so that healing is optimized.

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

Congrats on finishing your tx! Yes, go see your doctor about these open wounds - how did they not see? Best to you as you start the recovery process.

Bill . . . SCC - originated in right tonsil, drifted into neck ( 28 lymph nodes removed - one positive ). Radical neck dissection in September 07, completed 34 radiation tx on January 4, 2008. Used Peg. Non smoker, 61, good shape, no previous health issues. Second year PET scan - "all clear".

Biafine is NOT supposed to used on an OPEN wound. It will work well on the burned areas. As the others said, you need to see your RO.

Take care,
Eileen
