I completed my radiation/chemo treatments in Jan 08 for tonsil cancer. Following that I had a very salty taste in my mouth; however, it has changed to a putrid sweet taste (probably for the last 6 months) that makes me feel constantly nauseated. I was wondering if others have had such a taste, and if so, how they dealt with it. I have a thick mucus too, which makes it even more sickening. Thanks for any replies. Julieann

What has your RO said?

I don't care for chocolate anymore...
Try eating something salty...I believe your fluoride tx's ought to leave a slight salty taste behind...

My RO said it was unusual to have such a taste this far out from my treatments, but that she had heard of others having the same problem, associated with results of radiation and taste buds. An ENT oncologist I went to in Birmingham, AL said it wasn't uncommon and it could or could not go away. It just seems that not too many people have this problem (sweet taste). Hopefully, it'll subside. Julieann

As for the mucous, It's maybe more pronounced now that at 1st. Sweet anything just kills the tongue.

She says if the salt is too much to eliminate it or cut back on it.

He always has mucus, horrible taste and has done so much to try to get rid of it. I read the rinse recipie and will have him try this. He does milkshakes, ice cream ones, and I think that contributes to the extra mucus.

It would be a good idea if you fill in the signature section of your profile so that we will know your husband's diagnosis and treatment and you don't have to keep re-posting it.
There is a forum for new users that you should read.
