I read your post earlier this morning, Paula, then I went away for awhile, hoping that somehow I would find - somewhere - some words to help you through this. I didn't find them. From your messages in the past it seems that you and Jim have a special bond that few people find, and I can only imagine how difficult this process is going to be for you both.

All I can say is that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Paula,

I feel Like Donna because I know there is nothing I can say to help you. I can offer you support and prayers and that is what I will do for you. I'm sorry you are going through this, it is so hard to watch someone you love be in pain.

Paula,

I am so sorry to hear your news and I will be praying for you and your husband and family. I know those words seem trite at a time like this but will keep good thoughts going for you. God bless.

Thank you everyone for all of your kind words and prayers. We had a garage sale this weekend - he put up all of his tools and saws, truck, smoker, everything that says "Jim" up for sale and not many takers - basically a flop. This really depressed him as he feels like such a failure - can't work and can't even as he says - give things away...depression is surrounding me everywhere; it's all I can do to come to work and concentrate here without my mind wandering back to "it"...Tom, as far as the PET, our Dr. has made it very clear that the PET in oral cancer is just a guide to give them some inkling of what is going on...the uptakes that happen can be due to all sorts of various things...as far as the chemo, Jim pressed her very hard that he thought he could stand more, but she said no more as his liver results aren't good and that further chemo would render him sicker than he has been and once the liver and kidneys begin failing, there isn't any turning back....so for the quality of life that Jim wants, that he needs to refrain from further chemo. The pill that he is taking is causing a horrific rash (worst than the Erbitux) and he is very red, itchy and swollen.

Thanks again everyone for all of your heartfelt prayers and healing well wishes.

Paula

Not much I can say except you are in my thoughts and prayers full time. Jim is no failure, people just want things FREE and not pay for them. This is the generation of GIMMIES.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I am so sorry Paula, wish there was something I could do to help. I know what you mean about having trouble going to work and trying to concentrate. All I want to do is be by my wife's side and I experience a lot anger at anything, including work, that takes me away from spending time with her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Jim.

Tom and Paula,

As a patient I want you both to know how important your part is in this to your loved ones. I'm sure you already know this, but...by husband always treats me the same way and is just there for me. That is best thing that a CG can do..don't treat us differently. We still watched our same shows on tv and he would rub my shoulders and play with my hair. It was always relaxing. I know my treatment is different but just know how much we appreicate our CG's
