My daughter is 14 and she also needs support and someopne to talk to. Are there any sites setup for kids to go and vent?

I would think coming here wouldn't be good because they'd not feel safe about expressing what they are feeling seeing their posts can be read as ours can.

Any ideas?

Anne- Marie 2007- Just a thought here- I am pretty leary of many "sites for Kids" on the net. I also feel that someone your daughter's age would most benefit from a real person to sit and talk too. A reall face to face counselor can do a reality check with observations on body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, behavior, etc. Please explore some counseling options in your area for her. BTW, I am speaking from experience. When my first marriage fell apart after 18 yrs, I took my then teenage daughter to a good therapist and she says to this day that it was the best thing I could have done for her. {she went kicking and screaming the first time, but asked to go back thereafter] Amy in the Oz

I agree with Amy , Or the other option is to see if people on here have children that would maybe wanna talk and share concerns via email. I also have a 14 year old . Whether or not she would be willing to talk - email who knows I can mention to her if you like and if so i can email you her info or name on AOL . However she can be moody LOL as I am told is a teenage thing. LOL . No she really is a good kid, I guess I have never asked her if she needed to talk to somone I know at times she gets frustrated at me for talking about it , I dunno if that is just her fear or what so maybe it would be good for them to have people there own age to discuss things with and what they think and fear and we can monitor it and make sure they have ti correct info. So I will ask her and see if she is interested, AS I said though some days she is not intersted in anything I say........If anyone of you wanna tell me this goes away soon that would be great ! LOL

Ask her if she would like to have someone who's dealing with the same issues to talk with. If so, email me her AOL instant message name and I'll put it one my daughters.

I do monitor who my daughter talks to. I think we sometimes forget about how our teens feel cause they are always doing things. This has to effect them, so we need to do something.

I've told mine if she needs to talk, she can go to her guidence consellor at school, her pastor or me, but she also needs someone her own age to share with, in my opinion.

I will do that . Who knows maybe she will surprise me and want to talk LOL.. She seems to get angry at me when i talk about it , but I think that is her way of dealing with it. I was fortunate though so far I didnt need RAD or Chemo , Of course now we will see what the tonsil removal brings . I will talk to her tomorrow and Let you know .

I have a 13, 14 and 16 year old that are very good at talking about all of this, in particular my 14 year old. All are girls. My email is [email protected], if you will send me your daughters screen name I will have my daughter, Skylar, send her an email. It's a must that she talk to someone her age about it, and someone her age that has gone through it is priceless. Maybe we can get all of our kids that are this age group talking to each other? Worth a shot. We have each other, why shouldn't they? They could certainly start their own thread here and WOW would that give us all some insight.

I spoke to my daughter and briefly mentioned it ..her response was why do i need to talk about it ..ughhhhhhh Teenagers!!!! I just worry that she dosent talk becasue a few months back like 4-5 one of her friends mom died from lung cancer and she watched her over a period of 4-5 years get better and relapse. I mean I am no where near that severe and no cause for concern at this time ...however sometimes i wonder if she relates the 2 ,

Sharlee - It is indeed sad that your daughter's friend lost her Mom through cancer. It could well be that she is relating to that. Even adults have a hard time talking about it or even thinking about it. When my son was diagnosed back in September '06 it took me a while before I could even look up Scc on the internet because I was so afraid of what I would find out. We are all cope in different ways when faced with a serious illness. It would certainly be nice if our OCF teens had each other to email/talk to. I agree with Amy, tho' about those teen sites on the internet. You never know which weirdo is also checking them out. There is also a great benefit in face-to-face talk therapy with a qualified psychologist or therapist. Shouldn't insurance pay for this when it applies to the children of a cancer survivor? My heart goes out to all these very special and brave OCF teens who are themselves also surviving some very difficult times.
