So David's focus on HPV is something everyone should insist on finding out. Here is the link: HPV survival rates There is a racial twist to this story but I was focusing on the HPV aspect. Please bear in mind that these news clips are NOT vetted like the research you see on the OCF reader , so they are probably sensationalized but it does seem to lead credence to having all head and neck cancers tested for HPV. In another post on a different thread, I tried to see if anyone who has had a recurrence was HPV positive and the thread died out with only HPV negative recurrences like myself.

If they tested positive it might give them a mental boost as it did me and I was also self vindicated because since I had devoted my entire adult years to health and exercise I didn't want to be told that my cancer was caused by tobacco; 2. I wanted more people to be tested so more info could be tracked about HPV+ patients rather than potentially HPV+ people not being tested and thrown into the HPV- pool so to speak.

By age 50 over 80% of females test positive for HPV (no current mass test for men) and I guess the other 20% are nuns. Just kidding now. Almost all of us have come in contact with HPV and fortunately (perhaps for now) it only goes bad in a very small percentage of us lucky ones. I think our doctors throw around that STD phrase to casually.

Of course, they had no idea that it could cause anything other than cervical cancer. Take care, Eileen
