My guess would be genetics and probably some other factors that we don't know anything about yet. I'm waiting for some magical answer to pop out of the sky to explain why I got cancer, but I think I'm going to be waiting for a while! My positive node was on the same side of my neck as my tongue cancer, so maybe location does have something to do with it.


Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.
