The answer to your questions is that it depends on how quickly the biopsy is processed and forwarded to the surgeon. Some labs use fax and some use mail. Also every doctor has their own protocol as far as how and when they tell the patient. It is never quick enough for the patient.

I was lucky as my biopsy came to my office on the Tuesday following the Friday that it was done. Since it came directly to my office, I obviously had the advantage of not having to wait for the surgeon to tell me.
