My oncologist told me I could resume my previous alcohol consumption if so desired (1 or 2 beers at a time, once or twice per week...never on consecutive days...also the occasional hot weather Margarita). In the 3 months since ending treatment I've had a total of 2 beers and 1 Margarita. Since my sense of taste is still somewhat distorted, they weren't totally enjoyable. Based on that, I have no immediate plans or desire to have more. The Margarita, in particular, tasted odd. Anyone who has had one knows there is both a sweet and sour aspect to the taste sensation. Although taste is gradually returning, my sweetness receptors have been the last to come around. It was very odd to only taste the sour aspect of the drink.
Probably the single biggest reason I'm staying away from the stuff is because I am still battling dry mouth (haven't been on Pilocarpine long enough to know if it will make a difference). Alcohol has a drying effect, so I figure it's the last thing I should be consuming right now.
