Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 3,552 | I too was stationed on a very old pre WWII ship that had asbestos all over the place. It was mainly used to insulate steam pipes and painted over hundreds of times. There was very little risk.
Free floating asbestos can cause mesothelioma, which is a lung condition. I have not heard of it as a causitive factor for OC.
