The baking soda does help. It took about 6-8 weeks after radiation for mine to thin out. I thought I might go insane, but I didn't. It is frustrating as it can be. My speech pathologist said that everyone complains about it. I said duh, why don't they come up with something that fixes the problem then. or better yet find a cure for this awful disease. I tend of oversimplify.
