I have e-mailed your query to a Hematologist that I know quite well. She suggested that you ask the same questions to your doctors and ask if you can recieve platelets. You can recieve transfusions that consist of plasma and platelets. Apparently, some blood donations are centrifuged and the components separated. I have no reason to believe that this is untrue as I have heard of it.
It may be harder and rarer for hospital to get or may not be as stable but, it doesn't hurt to ask.
