Bette,

I also noticed hearing difficulties after my 2nd Cisplatin and now have been Dx with permanent high freq hearing loss. I don't really need hearing aids even though they would probably help but I definitely can tell I have a hearing loss. It's odd but I was told that my insurance will not cover hearing aids. I don't quite understand but since I haven'y opted for them I haven't pushed the question.

I really didn't make the hearing loss to Cisplatin connection until after my last Cisplatin and that's when my MO said that he would have switched me to Carboplatin which doesn't seem to damage the hearing cells or hairs or whatever and has shown to be just as effective as Cisplatin although they don't have as much history with Carbo.

Never did get a good answer as to why he didn't start me out on Carbo if it's shown top be as effective as Cis but without the hearing loss potential. You may want to inquire about Carbo.
