hello Bee, I am a recent patient with scc of the right tonsil that had spread to one lymph node in my neck, my ENT who specializes in head and neck cancer surgery ,although he is not an oncologist, but excellentrecommemded that I have radiation (imrt) 33x as well as chemo, three treatments at the same as I was doing radiation , them rest for three weeks then had a radical neck dissection. All of that was completed on january 11 and it was a week later that I recieved a good pathology report. I know that this is all recent and I cannot consider myself a survior yet, however that being said I am cancer free today, my recovery has been going very well and all of my doctors say that I am way ahead of the curve, however there are still some things I have to deal with, swallowing is still stuff but I did have peg tube removed two weeks ago, most taste is back but not all, can't taste salt, my neck, shoulder, face and ear are still numb and the cold really bothers it but every day is a good day and I continue to get better by the day and so will your dad after he completes his treatment. I cannot say what is the best protocol or order of treatment, I have met people in the same cancer center as me who had similar cancers but a different order to treatment, I think that is up to his doctors and how they view his case, you must put some trust in them and ask plenty of questions at the same time. Above all stay positive for your dad, that will be the best thing that you can do for him, you guys can win this fight, the battles are sometimes long and weary but it can be done , hang in there my dear
