I am surprised that no one responded to this post -- Benzydamine was written up in a recent review paper as the only material that showed significant effect on both preventing and alleviating severe mucositis in HNC patients recieving radiation, compared to a placebo in a clinical trial. It is used (as a oral wash) before radiation begins and 3-4x daily throughout.

Unfortunately it is not yet available in the USA, but is in Canada as a prescription drug (Tantum), and OTC in UK, much of the rest of Europe and Australia/NZ (Difflam).

I would also be interested to hear if anyone from these countries was given benzydamine and if it helped.
