Raymond - My son who lives in Knoxville is also a patient of Dr. Carlson's and really likes him a LOT (as do I). Dr. Carlson is a specialist in oral & maxillofacial surgery and although my son's cancer was not the same as yours, the cancer center at UT Medical Center has a whole cancer team of doctors that get together to decide the best course to take. A second opinion is always good, especially if it can ease your mind and helps you to make sure you have made the right decision. All the people in Dr. Carlson's office are really wonderful and caring and very compassionate. I'm sure they would not be offended if you asked them about referring you to someone who could give you a second opinion. Not knowing and just waiting for results of the PET/CT scan can be so hard but try to hang in there. You could bring someone with you when you get the results. My daughter and I went with him and it helped all of us. Also, you could have someone take notes to make sure you get everthing in case you have questions later. I'll be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way.
