Kerri, it sounds like you have sleep apnoea. Especially if you are in the overweight range ( like me ). You should be able to be referred to a sleep clinic for this . A CPAP machine will sort this out for you and reduce the other risks associated with sleep apnoea like an Atrial Fibrillation ( heart Arrhythmia).
If you are only noticing the wheezing while you have the chest infections I would be talking to the Dr , maybe a simple Salbutamol inhaler will fix this. Of course it could be as simple as secretions vibrating in the upper trachea and a good cough will clear this.
