I will take a contrary view of what your doctor is saying. You didn't say how many lymph nodes were positive but radiation is advised when lymph nodes are positive. I believe you should get a second opinion from the best cancer center or large hospital you can get to. At such a young age you want to be as aggressive as you can. I wouldn't casually advise radiation, it is a serious treatment. However, it can be quite effective. A second opinion is worth the trouble, please get one soon. Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
