Fill the water pic with warm water, lean over the sink, open your mouth and close your eyes. Then you use the water pic everywhere in your mouth and let whatever it drives out head down the drain of the sink. For a second rinse, I often will add some Biotene mouthwash to the warm water. The water pic does not eliminate the secretions, but it does help one to deal with them. And it feels so wonderful to have a clean feeling non-gunky mouth. Caution of course for anyone who has active mouth sores or recently has had surgery or radiation. The water comes out of the water pic with a fair degree of force, which would be too much for sore areas. Good luck.
