5FU is Fluorouracil, it prevents DNA replication of rapidly dividing cell - cancer cells does that.

Now back to the initial treatment, I see that she had chemo-radiation initially - do you have an idea why surgery was not performed? Where was the tumor located initially?

The latest CT does confirm that it is advanced stage. Surgery is an option only when tumor is localized, unfortunately, it is not the case here. In India, so far I have not seen Re-radiation within an year of previous radiation. Even if you consult Tata Memorial (Mumbai) or Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute (Delhi), they will go for Chemotherapy to get control of cancer - preferably combination or targeted therapy.
