I had a newer form of brachytherapy, called HD-IORT, High Dose Intraoperative Radiation Therapy. There was another poster, Cindy721, who had Brachytherapy, with the same doctor as mine, in NYC, but I don't see her in the forum anymore. They are similar in some ways, IORT needs the tumor resected, possibly graft or flap, and is a single high dose, usually requiring additional EBRT, opposed to brachytherapy, that may or may not need resection, graft, flap, additional EBRT, and encompasses 4 days. There are several types brachytherapy like with seeds in permanently. Out of the two, IORT has better control rates. Both are good in patients that had prior radiation, and radiation is delivered directly into or on the tumor area.
