It had metastasized to at least four lymph nodes in his neck on the same side. We realized something was wrong when a lump the size of any egg appeared suddenly below his ear. The first doctor told us he probably wouldn't make it. Our four grown sons found dad a new doctor. The new doctor was full of optimism. So in 2001 Charles underwent surgery and six weeks of radiation. No chemo.
In 2011 Charles noticed a lump in his tongue. A biopsy came back negative. But, the biopsy wound never healed and has become very painful plus the wound has developed hard edges. The doctor was a bit alarmed and has scheduled another biopsy. This time the doctor will make a clean wound and stitch it up.
My BIG concern is will a radiated tongue ever be able to heal? I have searched and searched and cannot find an answer.
