WOW, great advice everybody.

My loving, very overprotective hubby has made it clear that I am not allowed to eat anything solid if I am home alone.... that is part of the "new" me house rule. I have had a few close calls myself, so now I just don't even chance it.

If you really, really crave chicken, stick to dark meat. It's amazing how much easier it is to swallow than white meat.

I also blend a scoop of ice cream in a glass of milk and use that to let food slide down more easily....especially helpful if you are trying to gain back some weight. It thickens the milk enough so that I can swallow an almost normal dinner.

It is sometimes hard to remember to cut everything into really small pieces and eat slow. this cancer crap surely teaches one to be patient doesn't it ?


DX 12/6/10 of T3 SCC Tongue.
Surgery 1/3/11 was hemigloss & forearm free flap, midline mandibulectomy, Neck Disection-All nodes clear.
Ended rads 5/11/11. Taste buds back to about 80%. PEG removed 4/5/12, experimenting eating real food again. If I can do this, so can you !! Stay Strong.
