When the doctors and I were exploring the surgery option, they stated it would be a 14 hour surgery - which has got to be more than $40K. The anesthesiologist is typically more expensive than the surgeon. Back to your original question, the way that patients are billed is very convoluted and most fees are submitted separately and sometimes months apart.
