I myself think he is not doing well, he's taken the same path that put him in the predictament he's in now. I can't get thru to him what he is doing to himself is not good. So I don't say anything to him anymore. His voice is raspy and I can hardly understand him now because of him smoking. I told him he sounded better when he was going thru radiation, now he sounds like a mouthful of mush, I can only imagine what is going on inside there and his throat and voicebox and everywhere else. I guess he has given up and just keeps smoking and drinking...I can't help him anymore if he don't want the help, so I've given up on him too.
