It seems to me from what you are saying that Carol had general anesthesia and not local anesthesia. I'm sure that she was not just "numbed" and that she was put to sleep.
Local anesthesia would not cause any of the problems that she was having.
Just trying to clarify things and I hope she is back to normal by now.
