I am also a patient at Emory where I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer last April. I have completed treatment and am currently in the quarterly monitoring stage with good reports so far. I had never had any experience with cancer treatment before but from my experience I don't think you could do better than Emory in GA. I don't see any reference as to how far away you are from Atlanta but I would certainly consider Emory if at all feasible in the case of your husband.

It's a really hard diagnosis to digest and figure out how to deal with, emotionally as well as the logistics of rearranging your life during his upcoming treatments. Just want to share a couple of things- you DO need to be at the best treatment center possible- our radiation center was a 5 hr. round trip drive every day for 30 days- not my choice, but my husband, who was the patient and a pretty stubborn man-wanted to sleep in his own bed every night-so that's what we did. Before his treatment started, we also "cleared the decks" of any other responsibilities we could, and I made a list of what I would be responsible for in our personal lives so as not to be too swamped. I also asked for specific help from family and friends when his treatment started-that is essential- Please tell us what we can do to help you- I will gladly talk to you by phone, as will others here, if you feel like talking, or you can call me. Please take advantage of the resourses here. Amy in the Ozarks

Please call them and see what kind of help they can offer you. The number is 404-712-4366. I hope this helps. What part of Ga. are you from? I am up around Lake Lanier and love it. You also have a GREAT ENT. Dr. Chen is one of the finest people one could meet. She did my surgery and you can't even tell.
