I'm 22 days out today and I am feeling a little stronger each day, but then I MUST be in bed by 8 at night, something I never did. I am going to try to get back to work in a week or two, wish me luck! To anyone, When does the weight loss stop? I am still only down to 205 from 247, but still losing every week. It is hard when you used to eat 3000 to 4000 cal a day and then have to push just to hit near 2000! Oh well, it will get better! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE! God bless and good luck to you and yours mgmichael, hang in there!

During Tx I didn't even make that milestone every day but post Tx I was told to increase my intake to 3000 a day (6 cans of VHC) which I did and I started to feel better. I continued to consume 3000 cals every day and never gained a pound until the first part of my 2nd recovery year. Now I am back to eating "normal" and if I didn't exercise so much I would probably gain weight even at 2000 cals a day.

Is there a norm for the return to work? What did you do ? How long were you out?

Don't get too discouraged with the recovery, our doctors told us it takes about one month for each week of radiation to "recover". And, even after that time my husband required far more calories and far more sleep than pre-treatment.
If you can, try to get more calories in. It was a good year before weight started to come back on for my husband. He had to buy new clothes to return to work because nothing fit.
Post treatment, when his mouth was healed, he'd easily down 5000 calories a day and still had trouble gaining weight.

Nope no NORM for anything re this cancer or Tx.
Me personally....We were fortunate in that my wife and I are totally self employed types with many employees and my Office Mgr in my CPA firm is so handy and she can and more importantly WILL work in our restaurant whenever she's needed, some days bouncing back n forth like a ping pong ball. That took a tremendous pressure off both of us during and post Tx.
I tried working from home during the bad parts of my Tx but my concentration level was near zero so I gave up on that idea quickly. Post Tx I was able to go back to work maybe a month post Tx, I can't really remember now, but I know I didn't last many hours each day at first but before long I was back to putting in my normal days with one big exception. Before Dx and Tx I would start in my CPA office at about 8 am or so and then at 6 pm or so devote my energy mostly to the restaurant and walk back n forth as needed until closing time where I would close the restaurant and got home between 10 and 11 pm. I did that since we opened the restaurant in 1997. After Tx and after returning to work I tried unsuccessfully to convince my wife 10 years younger to sell everything and retire. I went thru what everyone does questioning life and what's really important type issues. To my disappointment at the time she said NO, NO and NO just to make it clear. She did say I could retire but what fun would that have been?? Well I didn't retire and I'm glad I listened to her (again) but ever since then I leave my CPA office around 7pm and she stays and closes the restaurant.

He still has days where all he does is sleep. We come and we go, forwards and backwards. Must be part of the territory.
