I think I'd go back to the referring doctor and ask for another referral to a different doctor to get the biopsy done.

Did the doctor who declined to do the biopsy give you an explanation for what was going on w/ the bump on your tongue?

lets see first of all my dr called to get me in today we'll the front desk lady said that the nurse would have to be the one to okay me to be worked in. the nurse at my drs office called and left a message for the nurse to return the call. i called 3 times and left 3 messages. then after lunch i called her back and got the front desk i told them i had not heard from her so finally after 4 hours of calling today i finally get to talk to the nurse who then tells me that the dr. no longer does biopsys and that he would probably have to refer me to another dr. but if i want to come in and have him look at it that it would be okay i decided i would let him look and see and then he could point me in the right direction. i get to the office and he rushes in there looks around asks me what i think is the problem and show him what my medical dr. thinks is suspicious so i do the bumps on the top are papillae (i think that is how you spell it) and the bumps on the side kinda look suspicious and that there is inflamation and i should use benadryl and water mixture and gargle and try to spray nasocort ( nose spray ) and use vitamin e on the site and let him know in a week if the inflammation has gone down if not then come in and he can biopsy it. how strange is that. I work for a dr. that is always rushing and doesnt take the time. but i feel like it my medical dr. felt like something was wrong that he wanted it done today . and this dr that is not taking his time to examine me just taking my money which it cost me 65.00 for him to tell me to use a 5.00 bottle of benadryl and 10.00 bottle of nose spray and 5.00 bottle of vitamin e and come back and then we can reexamine and biopsy . i feel like screaming . i am so fustrated with the medical system at times. My medical dr. diagnosed 2 members of my husbands family as something supicious and sent them to have their tests done both had cancer. one was my mother in law and the other was my husbands uncle. my medical dr. is a small town dr. doesnt go to hospitals just serves his community and does a heck of a job and the city dr.s only care about making their money.

Can you ask your medical doctor get you another referral to a different ENT for the biopsy work?

First off I'm a tad confused because they said he no longer does bios but then he said come back and I'll do a bio?

Secondly, you need to dump this guy and get to someone asap that is prepared to do a bio and is one that regularly deals with oral cancer.

We see far too many examples of delayed treatments because the early doctors just don't have the experience to recognize the potential for OC and it has been proven over and over again, early detection is the key to successful treatment.

thanks , i agree with you david. Makes no sense to me. I did call my family dr. the one that referred me and he said that sometimes the doctors are now forced to do the least invasive first and he wants that biopsy done he made me an appointment with another ent dr. and i will be going on the 26th. so now its just wait and see. Worried about what will happen. I am trying not to get my family involved in this lord knows i don't want to worry them with this till i find out what it is. I have to small children and i am worried what it will do to them. especially since my oldest his dad really doesn't have anything to do with him and my other is 3 . How do some of you guys do it. How did you handle of this.

babygirl,
I have two small children, 6 and 4. I just told them that mommy had a sore in her mouth that the Dr had to take out because it wasn't getting well on its own. The second time I had surgery My 6 year old understood better than my 4 year old because had his tonsils out. My 4 year old didn't really understand a whole lot, but enough that he is always telling people that I had surgery on my mouth. We have not used the C word with them and probably won't. They just know that mommy is going to have a hard time talking for a little bit. My 4 year is constantly coming to kiss me on the cheek to make me feel better. Just makes me want to cry.

Hi babygirl,

I hope you make it for a second opinion soon. It is so important to find this early and have a good doctor. Let us know how this turns out.

BG,

I bet your kids will understand this more than some of us do. Kids are smart that way. Try not to get to worked up until we know more.

It took my so called canker sore to show it's ugly head a couple of months. The first biospy showed inconclusive. I went back a few weeks later and I knew something was wrong because it had turned red and very sore. It came back cancer! When you go in for your results make sure you have someone there with you. Make sure you take notes and ask lots of questions. I hope you do not have to go on the journey that most of us have. But there is alot of support for you here if you need it. You are in my thoughts.

Sore throat, pain on the inside of the ear by the eutachion tube, started to get minor head aches, were my symptoms. I thought I had strep which is what the GP treated me for. Did not go away in 2 weeks, so he sent me for CT. Then to ENT that did the biopsy. I hope it is an alergy that is just causing the lumps. Good luck....
