I just want to take a minute and wish congratulations to Claudia LaSmith of North Carolina (Triangle Smiles for Oral Cancer Awareness), Natalie Powell and Ann Laveya of Philadelphia (Philly Walk),and NYU, for all of their hard work in conducting their walks this past weekend. It was a big success for all involved! They all have made a difference in their communities and spread awareness to people who before this weekend did not know much about oral cancer. And thanks to all who participated!

I know this is an important weekend, but it would be great if the Philadelphia and NYC walks could be on different weekends in the future.

I haven't figured out how to be in 2 places at once yet.

The NYC walk was terrific as were all of the screenings for oral cancer and other issues. My husband was so pleased to be able to do the walk and to see so many others participating.

Susan...I have fully recovered.

Sophie...I wish I had known that someone from OCF was there besides me. I had posted for anyone going to let me know so we could hook up. Sorry that didn't happen. Were you there, too?

Perhaps he or you saw me up on the stage stepping in for Brian to represent the OCF.

Hi, Jerry,

My group arrived shortly before you went on stage but the PA system was somewhat poor and all I could understand was that you were standing in for someone who couldn't make the event (later I heard it was Brian) and that you were a 4 year survivor (followed by applause!). I tried to get a look at you but my husband was getting an oral cancer screen at that moment and serving as a sort of living training experience (with pretty much all of the dental trainees standing around him asking questions and learning more about an actual person with oral cancer) so I couldn't see past them to to the stage. I was there with my husband and my daughter (young blond in shorts and tank top) and her boyfriend (tall, dark hair). I have shoulder length blondish hair and wore my walk t-shirt most of the time or a black tank top. We might have stood out because my husband is still quite thin and has the radiated skin look (loose, wrinkly) to some extent and most of those participating seemed to be dental students and health personnel. We finished the walk among the last people as we stopped a couple of times. I wish I had known that was you as I would have loved meeting you!

We plan to walk again next year so I really hope to meet you then. You have been so helpful to me (and others) on this board.

Sophie (Mary Ann but that name was already taken so I took my cat's name)

Hi Mary Ann,

I'm so sorry that we didn't hook up. It sure would have been nice to meet you, your husband and family. I was there with my son, daughter and my oldest grandchild.

We finished the walk rather quickly and due to other commitments that day, we had to scoot soon after we got back.

Maybe next year. I've been there all 4 years and I hope they switch the Phlly walk next year to a different day so I can go to both. I do live much closer to Philly, just like you.
