Amy,

That's great. Persistence pays off. Another great opportunity to get out the word on the importance of early detection.

You'll have to let me know how the walk in Chicago goes. I hope some other Mid-West members make it, too. Maybe next year there will be one or more on the West Coast.

I will send you a word document via email that I recently had published in a dental journal that I hope will provide you with some info to use for your article in the paper.

Leslie,

Thanks

Jerry

From "Grandma Amy" to young "Mama Amy"- What's up with the feeling guilty about not having the worst scenario outcome?? Please get over that and rejoice and treasure your new approach to life! It would be a very fine thing if, when you can find time while being a Mom, you could promote the word about early detection and the importance of realizing what this cancer can do and that we need to fight it with as many resources as possible. But the most important thing for you is to stay well, raise your children and love your life. "Old" Amy

You know, "Grandma Amy" has a nice ring to it. I remember when I was a young girl, thinking that "Amy" was much too young sounding to be a Grandma. Now I think it totally rocks. You don't have to be Mabel or Adeline to be Grandma anymore. I can't wait!!

Leslie,

You can be my Spin Doctor any day of the week. That is a great suggestion and I am going to use it.

Thank you.

Amy

Amy, I'm sure you are going to do a terrific job. I love Leslie's spin also. (There is no easy path with cancer you were told you have cancer and that is the toughest part of all.)Which Amy is the one with the bikini(Young mama Amy or Grandma Amy) is there going to be a photo shoot with this article?

Amy --

Thanks -- working in Washington does teach the importance of the right spin!

I do know what you mean, though -- my husband's SCC was mostly in situ when it was caught (with a tiny bit superficially invasive), and I am humbled by those who post here and have dealt or are dealing with more advanced stages, whether as survivor or as caregiver/family member/friend.

All the best,

Leslie

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

I think it's Grandma Amy with the bikini. This
Amy would have no business doing such a thing to the rest of America. Actually, with this "no chew diet" I might actually get these last 38 pounds off.

And yes, I do understand that my article will have a photo shoot. I think that usually there are one or two pix along with the "in depth" article.
