Its all up to the individual to stop, nobody can make a smoker quit.

That's the answer to quitting smoking. If a person doesn't want to quit, you can bet they won't.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Making someone quit smoking is a very difficult thing. It is completely up to the person to quit the habit. One requires a strong will and desire to quit. These are not the only factors. You may find very interesting tips to quit smoking, do follow the link http://www.stop-smoking-guru.com . This site is completely dedicated to stop smoking and I personally think it will certainly help.

I have tried and have not been successful...In fact, two strokes, one heart attack, cancer, beginning stages of emphysema and other ailments have not helped them to quit. My mother and step-father will stop when they're dead.

It must come from within. You can look and point out all the statistics and pictures but unless the smoker wants to quit it is a no go, no matter what you do.

yup,
Markus is right. My plastic surgeon told me my reconstruction would not work if i didn't get nicotine out of my system so blood vessels
could reconect. I never smoked after leaving his office and I had smoked like a stack on the ride there. I just got scared and made up my time. It is all in the mind.
No secret to it.
Good luck to you!
Debbie

Partial mandibulectomy and neck dissection 2/3/07. T2NOMO.
Had 14 hour operation which included reconstruction of jaw.
Reconstruction failed. Some radiation, no chemo.

I agree with the majority quit net can help...But in all honesty the person has to want to quit that is the first step. There are all kinds of aides out there but the strongest is one's mind. I smoked for 30+ years sometimes up to a pack and a half a day and it took facing oral cancer to make the quitting stick. I have been lucky I have angels on my shoulders cause I quit with 7 other people in this house all smoke. At any given times there are cartons of cigarettes in my home. If I can do it any body can...First the will to quit then the aides and support help....It can be done

Dianne..treatment at cc at Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario...insulin dependant, Surgery Sept 8/08 Tracheotomy, composite resection and bilateral neck dissection, left radial forearm free flap... T2N0 squamous cell carcinoma. No radiation A little over 2 yrs clear YAY

Quitnet, the patch and being scared out of my mind all helped me quit! I only quit once. Had I known that it was "doable" I would have quit much earlier. For so many years I kept telling myself that I couldn't do it - that they would have to put me in a padded room, etc, etc.

Turns out I could do it, and there weren't too many bodies that I had to dispose of!
