I am a stannous fluoride kind of girl - but I do have some slight staining from using it, mostly on the side that I don't chew on as much. I do 10 minutes (or sometimes a little more if I get distracted) every night before bed. I started using the trays about a week before radiation started and I stopped using the trays for about a week or two during treatment and just brushed my teeth with the fluoride. Me and fluoride are in for a long term relationship seeing as I'll be using it for life.

Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.

**** Stephanie passed away 12.15.09.... RIP our dear friend****

Travelottie, I had severe swelling of my tongue for months after treatment. The prednisone did help, but took a long time. Or perhaps I just finally started to heal! Who knows for sure.
