Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 3,552 | Debbie, I am not completely sure about this but I understand that there is an insurance company "clearing houses" much like credit companies that have databases for those using private health insurance and they share this information. Whether that has been impacted by HIPAA I don't know. To stay completely off of the radar you have to pay cash at the doctor.

Sorry guys, the agent cancelled my appointment 2 hours before he was scheduled to come out. I havent rescheduled with him, I will now go directly to the main insurance office so I can review every policy I have with them. It will be a couple weeks before I have time to go, I will update what they say.

When I was diagnosed I was in the process of signing up for Aflack cancer insurance but they had a 6 month waiting period any way and wouldn't have had to pay. The important thing is that you read the conditions and know the laws in your state. I actually had insurance for 2 months while they grilled me weekly for more past medical records and such and then they just "quietly" sent me back my premiums. On October 9, it will have been 5 years "cancer free" and I am going knocking and pounding the pavement to get something. I know I can get seomething from work but I don't know when for sure.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
