Sounds interesting if it can be proven to only bind to and thereby enable destruction of only the cancer cells but what I read doesn't mention Oral Cancer as a cancer that they hope it will work with.

I think it will take some convincing of a lot of us that have OC, that this is anything worth considering. I was in one study and will never volunteer again. Almost got my years that I have left to enjoy. Good luck to your friends hubby and I hope like hell he beats it again for a few more years or better yet, forever.

The use of nano particles to target cancer cells is being tested by lots of people around the country in reputable institutions and university research labs. The OCF news site has been posting articles for several years on nanoparticle work.

The use of radio frequency to destroy cancer cells is already done in a different way, called radio frequency ablation (RFA) in which a probe is inserted right into a tumor using a CT guiding technology, and then when turned in it literally cooks the cancer tumor to destroy it. While this destroys large mass tumors, it still has to be used in conjunction with other technologies for complete elimination of disease. Nanoparticles as a mechanism for painting malignant cells as targets could be used for many other ways besides radio frequency to target them. Do a search in the main OCF site for nano and you'll see a couple years worth of stories on how the work is progressing.

I watched the 60 Minutes piece and was skeptical at first until I saw that researchers at MDACC where involved. The doctor they interviewed felt that the research was promising and felt it would be applicable for all types of cancer. Naturally, the patient who came up with the radiowaves treatment was hoping to push the human trials up because his options were becoming more restricted. Although on the surface what was televised was quite impressive, I'm sure it will need much more investigation before it becomes a viable form of treatment...but if it does prove to a valid tool, it will be a wonderful treatment option that is considerably less damaging to healthy cells..or so they believe.

Cancer of Tongue, SCC early Stage 1, Dx 3/13/07, partial glossectomy 4/14/07 found no residual carcinoma and a granular cell tumor with pseudo epitheliomatous hyperplasia.
