Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I admire you all for your courage and strength.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April. --- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here

You have to take the battle to the enemy and fight with all you have got. The treatment will kick your ass to be sure but there are enough long term survivors here to prove that it can be done and that there is life beyond cancer. Don't give up and fight it one day at a time.

Unless someone has experienced one they could not imagine what it is like. I have had them since I was 17, I am 55 now. If you find that the ativan doesn't work, ask them to change it. I use Xanax and it has helped me over the years with panic attacks and it is the only thing that works for me. I to will soon start radiation and I can tell you I am scared, but I plan on giving this fight everything I have to beat this. I hope you get back in treatments asap, your life depends on it. And I know what amazing strength women have as we display that every day. God Bless and pm me if you need to talk about panic attacks. Angel
SCC left tonsil, tonsillectomy with additional tissue removed 06/10/08, a few teeth on top left side removed 09/05/08,recurrence before treatment started at BOT and tonsil area, 35 IMRT treatments began 10/15/08, and Cisplatin IV (began10/16/08) weekly for duration of radiation.
