I'm wishing your dad the best of news this week, it doesn't seem fair that a person who has taken care of himself, with healthy habits should be hit with cancer. I guess we have to learn that life is not fair and to just deal with what fate throws our way. You sound like a wonderful daughter and caregiver...just be there for him. I'm hoping chocolate cake is just around the corner for both of you. Hang in there!

Nancy, even a person that doesn't excercise all the time or eat the healthiest deserves cancer. A person that smokes 3 packs a day doesn't deserve cancer. Cancer doesn't care how healthy or unhealthy you are.

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 6 | My Dad ate cake tonight! Ironic....I haven't signed on to this site in months but I did tonight for some reason. I don't remember writing that post regarding the cake thing. Funny that tonight I sign on and it is the first time he has had cake. I was so happy for him I had to fight back tears.
daughter of 54 yr old man, non smoker, non drinker, no HPV, tumor at base of tongue and met to 4 lymph nodes. 7 weeks radiation + chemo completed 3/1/08, partial glossectomy scheduled 4/23
