Hi Lennie,
Some get out of it with no neck stiffness, some have it to different degrees. It's hard to tell if yours will stay. Mine has progressivly gotten worse so off to the PT I am going to go. Talk to your doctor about it and see if you can start going now.

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Unfortunatly, PT isn't much of an option as the hospital's in Hong Kong and I'm in Guangdong, about 4 hour trip no matter how you cut it. And PT as such isn't exactly a know science in this area, although Tai Chi, other ancient physical arts are, and you can get one heck of a theraputec massage here.

One positive side benefit to all this, between the muscle loss making my shoulder's more bony, and the fact my left shoulder is numb to the touch, I can carry my computer bag for long periods without much pain at all. Plays heck with the back muscles though..

Always looking for the silver lining.

SCC Tongue, stage IV diagnosed Sept, 2002, 1st radical neck dissection left side in Sept, followed by RAD/Chemo. Discovered spread to right side nodes March 2003, second radical neck dissection April, followed by more RAD/Chemo.

All my PT sessions started with 15-20 minutes of moist heat on my neck and back before the PT started working on me. Really felt marvelous and loosened things up. If you are not getting it, I would ask for it. Maybe you can find some of that in China. Massage helps also.

Nelie,
What is this PT charging or is your insruance just lousy? Mine charged the Medicare going rate for all patients regardless fot their insurance, even though my insurance would have paid much more. Sounds like you are getting very good care so I'd be reluctant to move.

Take care,
Eileen
